Coin Flip Rules & Odds

Everything you need to know about our peer-to-peer coin flip game, including the 50/50 odds and example scenarios.

How Coin Flip Works

Basic Rules

  • Two players bet equal amounts against each other
  • Room creator (Player A) is assigned to one outcome
  • Room joiner (Player B) is assigned to the opposite outcome
  • Chainlink VRF generates a random number to determine the winner

Key Features

True 50/50 Odds

Mathematically guaranteed equal chances for both players

Peer-to-Peer

You play against another person, not against the house

Winner Takes All

Winner receives the combined pot (2x their bet)

50/50 Odds Explained

50/50

Every coin flip has exactly equal odds for both players. No house edge, no hidden advantages.

50%
Player A (Creator)

Wins if random number is even

50%
Player B (Joiner)

Wins if random number is odd

Zero house edge means both players have a mathematically fair chance. This is NOT an approximation - it's guaranteed by the mathematics of even/odd numbers.

How Winner Selection Works

We use Chainlink VRF (Verifiable Random Function) to determine the winner. This cryptographically secure random number generator ensures no one can predict or manipulate the outcome.

Winner Selection Algorithm

// Winner selection using Chainlink VRF
uint256 outcome = randomWord % 2;
// outcome = 0 means Player A (room creator) wins
// outcome = 1 means Player B (room joiner) wins

// Mathematical proof:
// Any random number is either even (50%) or odd (50%)
// This is fundamental mathematics, not an approximation

The random number is generated AFTER both players have joined. Neither players nor PeetBet can influence the outcome. Every flip is verifiable on-chain.

Creator vs Joiner Fairness

A common question: Does creating or joining a room give you an advantage? The answer is NO. Here's why:

Room Creator (Player A)

  • Creates the room and sets bet amount
  • Assigned to even numbers (0, 2, 4...)
  • Exactly 50% of all numbers are even

Room Joiner (Player B)

  • Joins an existing room
  • Assigned to odd numbers (1, 3, 5...)
  • Exactly 50% of all numbers are odd

Both positions have exactly 50% chance. The random number is generated AFTER joining, so neither player can game the system.

Example Scenarios

Casual Game

Your Bet100 USDT
Total Pot200 USDT
Your Odds50%
Potential Win200 USDT
Potential Profit100 USDT

A simple 100 USDT flip. Win and you double your money. Lose and your opponent takes the pot.

Medium Stakes

Your Bet500 USDT
Total Pot1000 USDT
Your Odds50%
Potential Win1000 USDT
Potential Profit500 USDT

500 USDT on the line. Higher risk, higher reward. Same 50/50 odds.

High Stakes

Your Bet1000 USDT
Total Pot2000 USDT
Your Odds50%
Potential Win2000 USDT
Potential Profit1000 USDT

1000 USDT bet with 2000 USDT potential return. The odds are still exactly 50/50.

Expected Value

Expected Value (EV) tells you how much you can expect to win or lose on average per bet. With true 50/50 odds and no house edge, your EV is exactly zero.

Expected Value Formula

EV = (Probability of Win × Profit) - (Probability of Loss × Loss)
EV = (0.5 × bet_amount) - (0.5 × bet_amount)
EV = 0

// With zero house edge, your expected value is exactly $0
// This means a perfectly fair game with no built-in disadvantage

An EV of 0 means it's a fair game. Unlike traditional casinos with negative EV (house edge), our coin flip gives you no mathematical disadvantage.
